Super DNS Proxy

About Super DNS Proxy

Super DNS Proxy is a small desktop application for Windows and Linux, generated with the Ningal app generator. It runs a DNS proxy on your own computer: you set Windows to use 127.0.0.1 as its DNS server, and every lookup your machine makes is handled locally by the app instead of being sent straight to your ISP's resolver.

Rather than depending on a single resolver, you enter as many DNS IP addresses as you like — public ones, your own, or a mix of both. Each query is sent to all of them at the same time and the first answer back is the one that gets used, so a slow or unreachable resolver never holds up your browsing.

It also fixes the part Windows handles poorly. The app waits 500 ms for a reply (this is configurable) and then re-sends the query itself a chosen number of times, instead of leaving Windows to assume the query never made it and abandoning the connection.

Rounding that out are an optional local DNS cache, off by default, a live query log so you can watch lookups as they happen, and a live TCP retransmission log that shows when a TCP SYN had to be re-sent before a server would answer. The retransmission log is available while the TCP port 443 reachability check is switched off.
