Super DNS Proxy

Super DNS Proxy

A local DNS proxy for Windows and Linux. It asks every resolver you list for an answer at the same time, keeps the fastest one, and re-sends the queries Windows would rather give up on.

Point Windows DNS at 127.0.0.1 and pick the upstream resolvers in the app.

Running the app

Windows

  1. 1Extract the downloaded ZIP to any folder — desktop, USB stick, wherever. There is no installer; the app runs from that folder.
  2. 2Right-click the .exe file, select Properties, tick Unblock at the bottom of the General tab, then Apply. Windows blocks files downloaded from the internet until you do this.
  3. 3Double-click the application to launch it. If Windows shows a "Windows protected your PC" warning, click More info and then Run anyway.
  4. 4Set your Windows DNS server to 127.0.0.1, then add the upstream DNS IP addresses you want to use inside the app.

Linux

This build has not been tested yet.

  1. 1Extract the downloaded ZIP to any directory. There is no installer.
  2. 2Run the included run.sh script with bash run.sh, which sets permissions and launches the app for you.
  3. 3Or run it manually with chmod +x your-app-name followed by ./your-app-name.

What it does

Fastest answer wins

Enter as many DNS IP addresses as you like. Every query goes to all of them at once and the quickest reply is the one returned.

Re-sends lost queries

Waits 500 ms for a reply (adjustable) then re-sends the query a set number of times, instead of waiting for Windows to decide it was lost.

Local DNS cache

Keeps recently resolved names on your own machine for instant repeat lookups. Off by default.

Live query log

Watch every lookup as it happens and see exactly what your machine is asking for.

Live TCP retransmission log

See when a TCP SYN had to be re-sent before a site answered. Available while the TCP 443 reachability check is off.

TCP 443 reachability check

Probes every address on port 443 before returning it, and answers 127.0.0.1 if nothing responds within 200 ms so the browser fails fast.

DNS over TCP sent as UDP

Chrome and Edge sometimes send DNS in the clear over TCP — the proxy turns those into UDP queries on the way out.
